  He fired three shots in the air as we jogged into the warehouse unprotected. It was stupid, but I wasn't used to sting operations or whatever the fuck we were up to. I just needed to find Audrey and get her out of the line of fire. We owed her that and whole lot more for all she'd done for the family.

  I fired my gun a twice, killing to ugly bastards as I turned to the right and jogged down the hall.

  "If you see my brother, get him outta here. You hear me?" Marco screamed after me, but I could care less about Freddy Castaletta. That fucker was nothing but a piece of trash that turned in his momma and his family, for protection that they could have easily given him. He deserved whatever the fuck happened to him, but Aubrey didn't.

  Someone barreled out of the room to my right and plowed me over, punching me twice in the face and getting up to run down the hall.

  I rolled onto my stomach and fired a few shots, hitting nothing but the drywall.

  "I hate shit like this. I'm a fucking real estate guy. I'm not a killer." I got up and turned, firing my gun as a thug ran out of the room to my left and lifted his gun toward me. I walked over his body, and turned back, shooting him in the chest three more times in case he decided to get up and come back after me. "Fuck you for charging me, you big idiot."

  I walked into the bedroom to find Aubrey in a heap on the floor.

  "Shit." I tucked the gun in the back of my pants and dropped down on the floor beside her as my stomached turned upside down. "Aubrey. Come on, sweet girl. Tell me you're alright."

  There wasn't any blood on her and she seemed to be breathing. I leaned down and pressed my ear to her mouth, listening as she drew in steady breaths. The dark gash on the side of her head and the table leg sitting on the floor beside her helped me to connect the dots quickly. Someone knocked her out.

  I pulled out my phone and tried to call D again. Straight to voicemail.

  "Where the fuck are you?" I screamed into the phone. "We're in the middle of the Kallups new hangout getting our assess handed to us. Where are you, D? Where the fuck are you?"

  I hung up and knelt beside Aubrey, picking her up and cuddling her to my chest before standing up and walked slowly down the hall. I heard two more gunshots fired as I made my way back toward the main room, but then... nothing. Silence.

  There were several bodies lying on the floor in the main part of the warehouse, and I could hear Marco crying somewhere in the back, but I had to get the girl out first. I jogged to the car and laid her down in the backseat, locked the door and ran back toward the warehouse with my gun drawn again.

  I was going to fucking kill D when I got a hold of him. This wasn't in my job description and he fucking knew it.

  "Marco? You alright man?" I pressed my back to the outside door of the warehouse as the sound of cars racing off from the other side filled up the night. "Marco, talk to me, dude. I don't wanna get shot and die in this fucking rat hole."

  "They’re gone, you idiot." His voice was pinched with fear and pain.

  I turned and jogged into the belly of the warehouse, trying to make my way toward him and praying like hell his agony had nothing to do with Izzy.

  "Holy shit." I stopped short at the opening of the office. Marco sat on the floor, covered in blood with the body of his little brother in his arms. "Let's get him to a hospital. Come on. Shit."

  I ran toward him and reached for Freddy as he swatted me away. "Get the fuck away from him. Don't touch him!"

  "What happen man? Is he... Is he dead?" Izabella was going to be heartbroken.

  "Yes, Edward. He's dead." Marco wiped his face angrily with one hand and pointed toward a big guy who was face first on the floor, blood pooling around him. "That asshole shot my brother, so I shot him."

  "Come on man. We gotta get you out of here."

  "No. Leave me here. I'm not leaving Freddy alone."

  "Marco. He's dead man. Come the fuck on before this assholes come back."

  "Back off. Now." He lifted his gun and pointed at me. "Send my sister out here. Only my sister. I'm not throwing Freddy in the goddamn river for the animals to eat like the rest of you sick bastards want me to do. Find Izzy and tell her what happened. Send her out here."

  "Marco. Dude." I lifted my hands as he screamed louder than I'd ever heard anyone scream.

  "Now! Fucking now!"

  "Alright. Alright man. I'll get her." I turned and jogged toward the car, pulling out my phone. I called her phone ten times and finally gave up. I dropped down in the passenger's side of the car and pressed my hands to my face as exhaustion rolled over me. I had only one choice. I had to fucking call Joe.

  "Joe Castaletta." His voice was gruff and filled with sleep.

  "Don Castaletta. It's Edward. We're at the Kallup warehouse and just went through some crazy shit, Sir. Freddy's dead and Marco is refusing to leave him and come home with me. I need help and I can't find Izzy or D. I don't know what the fuck to do. I have a hooker in the back seat bleeding from the head and-"

  "Take her home, boy. I'll find Demetri and send him that way. I know exactly where he is. The one place I forbid him to be."

  The phone went dead and chills rushed through me and down my back. Where was D? What the fuck had I set in motion?
